LAHORE: An election tribunal on Wednesday ordered re-election on the Punjab Assembly seat of PP-136 (Narowal) after declaring illegal the result of the May 2013 polls held in the constituency.
An independent runner-up candidate Muhammad Wakeel Khan Manj had challenged the victory of retired Col Shujaat Ahmad Khan of Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) in the election held on May 11 last year.
Subsequently, an inspection of the record of the PP-136 (Narowal) results had put a question mark on the credibility of the elections.
The tribunal had ordered the inspection over the plea which lead to the revelation of serious flaws and discrepancies in the record available for the constituency.
The bench, while terming the May 2013 elections in the constituency as illegal, said that the disappearance of polling bags and discrepancies in stamps and signatures of the issuing officer on counterfoils had proved the accusations leveled by the petitioner.
Moreover, the tribunal announced that re-polls to be held in Punjab's PP-136 (Narowal)
