ISLAMABAD: The core committee of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) vowed to continue the blockade of Nato supplies in protest against drone strikes and the party chief Imran Khan has asked the federal government to halt the supplies while strongly condemning the latest drone strike in Miranshah.
The forum reiterated that a massive protest would be held in Lahore on December 22 against unemployment and rising prices of essential commodities. The masses have been urged to be part of the proposed protest.
It is unclear how long the PTI will continue its protests; however, there are indications that the party is having second thoughts about continuing this exercise for a longer period.
Imran said the government had miserably failed to stop drone attacks despite its commitment to the masses, parliament’s consensus resolutions and the APC’s declaration.
Imran said during his recent visit to the US, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif neither conveyed the viewpoint of the Pakistani political leadership to the American administration about drone attacks nor could he get a categorical assurance on an end to drone attacks. He said drone attacks were a major cause of the increase in terrorism.
Imran contended that drone hits were against Pakistan’s sovereignty, security and international laws and were killing innocent civilians, including women and children. The core committee reviewed the party’s preparations for the upcoming local bodies’ elections in the Punjab and Sindh.
