Hours after the filing of reference by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Nandipur project delayed Babar Awan has tendered resignation as Advisor to Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affair.
Babar Awan shared this new on twitter, saying “Just reached PM House to tender my resignation from Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. Rule of Law begins with me.”
Babar Awan thanked PTI workers for standing by him always. “I will never let you down,” he said.
In his hand written resignation, Babar Awan says, “I am resigning as advisor to PM so as to prove baseless allegations of NAB wrong.”
Earlier, the National Accountability Bureau o filed a corruption reference against former minister for law and justice Babar Awan regarding a delay in Nandipur Project in Accountability Courts Islamabad.
Awan serves as the adviser to the prime minister on parliamentary affairs.
The former federal minister for water and power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, along with other officers of the ministry, also faces a corruption reference for the delay in Nandipur Project.
The corruption references were filed after a commission, constituted at the behest of the Supreme Court, held officers of the Ministry of Law and Justice responsible for the delay.
Earlier on July 13,National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal ordered an investigation into alleged corruption in Nandipur power project.
The accountability bureau directed the probe in light of a Supreme Court order to examine corruption allegations with reference to the findings of the one-man commission of former Justice Rehmat Hussain Jafri on the Nandipur power project.As per a notification issued by the anti-graft watchdog, the NAB chairman asked director general NAB Lahore to conduct the investigation.
A three-judge Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had ordered NAB to probe alleged corruption in the power project on June 7.
During the proceedings, the CJP asked how long the file related to the project would remain pending in the law ministry.
