Police and security agencies arrested at least 50 suspects in Rawalpindi where a Taliban-claimed suicide blast near the Pakistan Army headquarters left 14 people dead and 31 injured yesterday.
Authorities have booked Chief of banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Fazlullah and spokesman Shahidullah Shahid as accused in a preliminary investigation report under Section 109 for consultation/collaboration for the blast. Officials said security forces conducted raids in different areas of the garrison city this morning and rounded up nearly 50 people.
The law-enforcers searched hotels and suspected houses and interrogate people in Pir Wadhai Adda, Fauji Colony, Mahar Colony, Ziaul Haq Colony, Bangish Colony and other areas. Those arrested were being interrogated by a joint investigation team, sources said.
A report of Monday’s blast in R.A Bazaar, prepared by intelligence agencies, has been sent to the Interior Ministry, sources said, adding that body parts of the bomber were being examined, with no clue found so far.
SSP Operations, Mian Maqbool said a suspected person, Zahir Khan, was arrested in injured condition from the blast site yesterday, adding the man is being treated in hospital and unable to record his statement. He is suspected to be a collaborator of the suicide bomber.
