Supreme Court on Wednesday resumed hearing of petition submitted by Air Marshal (retd) Asghar Khan.
A three member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing of Asghar Khan’s petition, in which he requested the court to look into allegations that the ISI had financed many politicians in the 1990 elections by distributing Rs140 million to create the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad and stop Benazir Bhutto’s PPP from coming to power.
During case proceeding, Salman Raja, petitioner s counsel, presented the summary before the bench.
Chief Justice remarked that court is waiting for presidency’s reply regarding existence of the political cell, adding that court may summon Ijlal Haider later.
On Tuesday, Secretary to the President House Malik Asif Hayat had informed the court that a proper reply would be submitted by Wednesday about the election cell in the presidency after recovering the old record.
The bench maintained that the distribution of money among politicians was an act of some individuals and the entire Army institution should not be made a part of it.
