During a briefing by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research in Islamabad‚ he said agriculture produce of the country should meet domestic requirements and also generate surpluses for exports.
He directed to take necessary steps to encourage appropriate technology to minimize post harvest losses.
The prime minister regretted that despite abundant natural resources‚ we have a very low per acre yield.
He said there is a need to devise an effective mechanism to educate farmers and the industry on any development made in agriculture research to increase production.
Prime Minister Pervez Ashraf also directed to work on a plan to increase edible oil production to save foreign exchange on its imports.
