    Former Sri Lanka skipper Lahiru Thirimanne was hospitalised after he was involved in a horrifying car accident in Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka on Thursday.

    According to international media reports, Lahiru Thirimanne was travelling in his car which got into a serious head-on collision and he was then taken to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.

    Exact natures of his injuries were not known but he is currently in stable condition. Reports claimed that there was at least one more passenger with Thirimanne in the car and that person is also receiving treatment in the hospital.

    Thirimanne was currently playing for New York Strikers in the Legends Cricket and the franchise has released an official statement regarding the incident.

    According to reports, Thirimanne was on pilgrimage when the accident happened. The car crashed into a lorry that was coming from the other side and was damaged severely in the incident.

    Thirimanne played 44 Test matches, 127 ODIs and 26 T20Is during his decade-long career. He was part of three T20 World Cup campaigns including the triumphant 2014 edition. He retired in July 2023.
