    Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif took notice of the minor girl with mental disabilities who was burnt alive after rape in Chichawatni.

    The eight-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries at Jinnah Hospital Lahore Tuesday morning.

    On April 8, unidentified men had set the minor on fire after raping her in Ward 17 of Mohammadabad area of Chichawatni. The girl had left her house to buy sweets from a nearby shop. After she failed to return home, her parents and neighbours started looking for her.

    After three hours, the girl was found to be burnt alive and immediately shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. The doctors said that the girl had suffered 80 to 90 percent burn wounds.

    The minor was later shifted to Jinnah Hospital Lahore in a critical condition where she succumbed her wounds Tuesday morning.

    A murder case has been registered against the suspects, the police said. However, the FIR does not include rape charges. The rape will be confirmed after the postmortem.

    Meanwhile, the people in Chichawatni’s Ward 17 took to the streets demanding justice for the minor. All the business centres and shops were closed bringing the commercial activity to a halt.
