  • Punjab Assembly approves Local Govt Bill

    The Punjab Assembly on Wednesday adopted Local Government Bill 2013 with a clear majority amid opposition’s walk-out.

    Punjab assembly session was headed by Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal.

     

    Under the bill, local government elections in Punjab will be held on non-party basis.

    Tahir Sindhu, a government lawmaker, presented 13 amendments in the bill, which was rejected by the Speaker. He also rejected other amendments proposed by the opposition.


    On this, members of the opposition parties staged a walk-out from the assembly. The house then passed the bill and adjourned the session till Thursday.
