  • Punjab govt presents Rs871 bln budget

    Punjab Assembly presented provincial budget for fiscal year 2013-14, having a total outlay of more than Rs 871 billion, 20.43 billion for the energy sector and salaries of the Govt employees increased by 10%.

    The overall expenditure for the Chief Minister’s house has been cut by 30 per cent.The minimum wages for laborers are to be set at Rs.10,000.

    The finance minister said that metro bus service would be launched in Multan, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi. He said that Rs93 billion were allocated in the budget for South Punjab region.

    He reiterated that Patwari system would be changed by 2014. The Punjab ministers, he announced, would not be allowed to hoist party flags at official vehicles.

    Budget proposals also include establishment of Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC).

    He announced that laptop schemes would continue while Rs3 billion would be allocated to build more Danish Schools.

    Rehman also said that budget includes Rs5billion subsidy for the coming month of Ramadan. He further announced Rs82 billion were allocated for heatlh and Rs210 for education.
