  • Rana Muhammad Iqbal elected as Speaker Punjab Assembly

    Rana Muhammad Iqbal of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PNL-N) has been re-elected as Speaker Punjab Assembly and took oath of his office Monday.

    Rana Mashhood, deputy speaker of previous Punjab Assembly, administered the oath.

    Rana Muhammad Iqbal was re-elected by the new assembly by securing 297 votes out of 332 while the contesting candidate Rashid Hafeez of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) received 35 votes.

    The members of the provincial assembly voted through secret ballot and congratulated Rana Iqbal on being selected as speaker for the second time.

    Shahbaz Sharif was the first one to cast his vote, followed by the remaining members of the assembly.

    Following the oath taking of Rana Muhammad Iqbal, voting process for the deputy speaker of the Punjab Assembly is underway.
