The fellow prisoners at Kot Lakhpat jail attacked Indian spy Sarbeet Singh on Friday.
He received severe head injuries and was later shifted to Jinnah Hospital for medical treatment.
Meanwhile the Assistant Superintendent, Jail Warden and policemen responsible for Sarbeet’s security have been suspended. The Punjab Home Department has also ordered an inquiry into the attack.
He was arrested on charges of conducting four bomb blasts in Faisalabad, Multan and Lahore. He is named Manjeet Singh in the FIR. He was sentenced to death.
His counsel claimed it was a case of mistaken identity.
According to the Foreign Office spokesman the administration of the is conducting an investigation into the attack. The spokesman added that India's request for counselor access was also being considered.
