Triple murder convict Akram, who was on death row, was hanged in the early hours of Saturday morning.

As per the provisions of the Counter-Terrorism Act, the death row inmate Akram was hanged for the murder of his wife, sister-in-law and brother-in-law. Akram had committed the triple murder in 2002, after a domestic dispute had arisen.

According to details, Akram’s relatives had met with the condemned a day prior to his hanging. As per rules and procedures, Akram’s body was handed over to his relatives after the hanging.

It should be borne in mind that for the previous 7 years, a moratorium was in place for hanging convicts. However, after last year’s tragic attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar, the moratorium had been lifted. Following the lifting of the moratorium on hanging, more than 240 convicts have been hanged so far.
