    The 9th of Muharram is being observed throughout the country today with due solemnity and sanctity to pay homage to the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain(AS) and his companions in Karbala.

    Ulema and Zakireen will throw light on the bright and candid teachings of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his great companions.Elaborated security arrangements have been made to avoid any untoward incident during mourning processions. Special traffic plan for the processions of 9th of Muharram ul Haram have also been chalked out in different cities.

    Mourners are taking out processions across the country on Thursday, the ninth of Muharram, to pay homage to the martyrs of Karbala.

    In Karachi, the main procession will be taken out from Nishtar Park. The yearly processions are being taken out today from Quetta, Rawalpindi and Peshawar. The main procession in Islamabad will be taken out from Asna Ashri Imam Bargah.The annual Zuljinah processions are also being taken out and Majalis (gatherings) are being held across the country.

    Strict security measures have been taken to avoid any untoward incident. In Karachi, police, Rangers, ladies and gents scouts were deployed at the route of the main procession. Sabeels (stalls for refreshment drinks) were setup as per years old tradition.The 10th of Muharraum, Youm-e-Ashur, will be observed with great reverence on Friday.

    The cell phone services in Karachi and other cities of Sindh on Muharram 9 and 10, will be temporarily suspended, the provincial government decided on Wednesday.

    Home Secretary Sindh Qazi Kabeer confirmed that cellular services will remain suspended from 8 am till 10 pm to ensure security on Ashura.Kabeer added that due to security threats, mobile phone services will be suspended along designated Ashura procession routes and areas surrounding imambargahs in sensitive cities which include Karachi, Mirpur Khas, Sukkar, Hyderabad, Nawabshah and Khairpur.

    However, the home secretary added that services will remain functional in areas which are not along procession routes.

    Mobile phone services will also remain suspended in Peshawar on Muharram 9 and 10, government officials stated.

    A request was forwarded to the interior ministry for the suspension of mobile phone services throughout the province on Ashura.

    Earlier, the Sindh government placed a three-day ban on pillion riding on 8, 9 and 10 Muharram across the province.

    According to a notification issued by the home department, the exhibition of weapons and the use of loudspeakers without permission are not allowed from 1st to 10th Muharram.The notification said that hate speech, provocative wall chalking and the use of drones are also banned.
