    The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday initiated inquiry against a number of individuals, including Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Agha Siraj Durrani, Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar, and Director-General Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA).

    The bureau’s regional board approved the initiation of the inquiry in a meeting.

    NAB has initiated separate inquiries against former Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani; for owning assets beyond means, and illegally hiring 352 people in various positions in the government.

    Akhtar and other officials of the KMC face inquiry for the alleged misuse of funds from 2015 to 2018. NAB authorities said that Rs36 million were misused out of the budget under Akhtar as mayor.

    DG SBCA also faces inquiry for owning assets beyond means.

    NAB has started inquiries against a number of political bigwigs, including PTI chief Imran Khan, PTI leader Pervez Khattak and former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif.
