    The President addressing the ECOSOC summit on polio in New York has vowed to eradicate the disease from Pakistan.

    The President Asif Ali Zardari‚ addressing the ECOSOC summit on polio in New York a short while ago‚ has vowed to eradicate the disease from Pakistan.

    The President said it is our national priority to root out polio from the country.

    He said Shaheed Benazir Bhutto had launched the anti polio campaign in Pakistan eighteen years ago.

    The President said the assistance of the army and other security agencies has also been acquired to eradicate the disease.

    He said the government has launched special campaign in tribal areas with the cooperation of tribal chieftains and ulema to administer polio vaccine to the children.

    The President said the polio cases in the country have dropped by two-thirds over the past few years and expressed the confidence that the country will be a polio-free states soon.

    Our special correspondent Murtaza Solangi from New York reports that the World leaders including Prime Minister of Australia‚ Julia Gillard‚ Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan‚ Afghan President Hamid Karzai and donors including Bill Gates‚ Co-Chair and Trustee‚ Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation‚ and United States Secretary of Health and Human Services‚ Kathleen Sebelius are attending the event.
