Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said Pakistan would find an opportunity to complete the proposed Iran gas pipeline project.
Addressing to National Assembly Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Resources meeting, the minister said that Pakistan has intensified its efforts to materialise Pak-Iran gas pipeline project. He said that it seems that situation is appropriate to materialise proposed the project following inking a deal on Tehran’s nuclear programme between Iran and world powers.
He said that two hundred million worth CNG pilfered by a station in a year. One percent gas theft is equal to 3.2 billion rupees which is huge amount however; ministry is taking steps to reduce the theft, Abbasi informed. Earlier, talking about fluctuation in petroleum prices, Khaqan Abbasi said that this time prices will remain stable. He stated that prices of petroleum products are declining in the international market therefore prices of oil products would remain stable in the country.
Secretary Petroleum Abid Saeed also said that the Iran-Pakistan pipeline has become more important in the current scenario. He said the pipeline project could only be pursued if sanctions against Iran were lifted. Saeed said the price at which Iran would sell gas to Pakistan was a little high but the electricity generated from imported gas would help to resolve shortage of electricity besides reducing power tariff.
