  • China:Blasts in Communist Party building, 1 killed

    A series of explosions killed one person and wounded eight near a Communist Party building in northern China today, and may have been the result of homemade bombs.

    The blasts occurred in the Shanxi province city of Taiyuan, microblog of the Shanxi public security office. Police sealed off the area and are investigating.
    The explosions come with police on high alert ahead,  Communist Party gathering in Beijing where leaders may decide on sweeping reforms to China’s economy. Security was also stepped up after a sports-utility vehicle rammed into a bridge outside the Forbidden City near Tiananmen Square in Beijing.
    Steel beads were scattered at the scene of the blasts in Taiyuan, suggesting they were the result of homemade bombs.
