One woman has been killed and at least nine people - including several foreigners - were injured in a bomb attack in a Thai seaside resort.

The two bomb explosions in the popular upmarket resort of Hua Hin, south of Bangkok on Thursday came ahead of a public holiday on Friday.

The second bomb exploded near a bar at about 10:20 p.m. killing a Thai woman and injuring eight foreigners and one other Thai person, local deputy police chief Samer Yousamran said.

No one was hurt in the first bomb blast 50 metres away.

The injured were being treated in a local hospital.

The police do not yet know of a motive or the identity of the bomber.

In a separate incident earlier on Thursday, a bomb exploded at a market in the southern Trang province in Thailand, injuring six people, police said.

Police believe that explosion was related to a local dispute.
