Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has backed left-arm fast bowler Akif Javed for the ongoing Test series against England, saying he would have wanted the young bowler in the squad after his recent good bowling in England.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, Akram said bowling one delivery at 150 kilometres per hour was not a major achievement.
He said bowling at 140 kilometres per hour throughout the day was a remarkable effort.
Akram urged people not to get carried away by young fast bowlers and said they should be given the chance to play before any judgement is made.
On Shaheen Afridi, Akram said the experienced fast bowler remained important in England, although he did not know why his pace had dropped.
Akram said Pakistan needed an experienced bowler such as Afridi in English conditions.
He also criticised the lack of variety in Pakistan's fast-bowling attack, saying the team had sent several bowlers with similar pace to England.
Akram said Pakistan had also played in similar conditions in the past, but had a greater variety of fast bowlers rather than bowlers of the same type.
