Australia eased past Oman by 39 runs on Thursday during the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 at Kensington Oval in Barbados.
Chasing a target of 165 runs, Oman were restricted to 125-9 in 20 overs.
Marcus Stoinis bagged figures of 3-19 for the winning side. Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa and Nathan Ellis claimed two wickets each.
Oman kept on losing wickets at regular intervals during the run-chase which ensured that their innings remained bereft of momentum. Ayaan Khan top-scored with 36 runs in 30 balls.
Earlier, Oman won the toss and decided to field first against Australia.
Despite reducing Australia to 50-3 in the 9th over, Oman ended up conceding 164-5 in 20 overs.
Stoinis played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 66 runs in 35 balls with the help of two fours and six maximums.
"Nice start, we got the win and boys spent some time in the middle and everyone got to bowl. I was trying to soak up the conditions and keep it simple. Couple kept low and couple were spinning for the spinners. It seemed like swing wasn't available, and I was trying to get some bounce with cross-seam deliveries," Stoinis said after being named Player of the Match.
David Warner also notched up a fifty, scoring 56 runs in 51 balls.
Mehran Khan registered figures of 2-38 in four overs for Oman.
Australia are eyeing to achieve the elusive triple crown of World Test Champions, ODI World Champions, and T20 Champions.
