As the Senate elections get closer and the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) reels from an internal rift, political activities are risen in the city.

A delegation of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led by Imran Ismail on Wednesday called on the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) at the Pakistan House head office in Karachi. They discussed a range of issues including the Senate elections, political situation in Karachi and the problems facing the city.

Addressing a joint press conference after the meeting, PSP General Secretary Raza Haroon said that contact was established between the two parties since the last few months, and they will continue to coordinate to address the problems of the people.

He said that a coordination committee has been formed between the two parties to discuss the Senate elections, and further course of action will be decided based on its recommendations.

“We also have a coordination committee, but this is not one which has issues of convenor and deputy convenor,” he said taking a jibe the MQM-Pakistan.

He further said the PSP is in contact with several opposition parties. He decried the plethora of problems facing the city, including in the death of 145 children every day from hazardous water, and the criminal negligence of the rulers.

Imran Ismail said that the development projects in Karachi were initiated during the administration of PSP chief Mustafa Kamal during his tenure as city mayor, while the incumbent mayor is a portraying a picture of dissappointment. He said the PTI and PSP will continue to higlight the city’s woes more prominently.

He announced that Najeeb Haroon will contest the Senate elections on a technocrat seat. He also condemned the threats to a PTI worker by MQM’s Salman Mujahid Baloch and demanded that action should be taken against him.

The PTI delegation included Imran Ismail, Najeeb Haroon, senior executive vice-president Sindh Haleem Adil Shaikh and others. They were welcomed by PSP president Anis Qaimkhani, Raza Haroon, senior vice-chairman Anis Ahmed advocate, Dr Sagheer Ahmed, and vice-chairman Waseem Ahmed.
