  • Karachi: Mukka Chowk renamed to Shaheed Liaquat Ali Khan

Mukka Chowk, a roundabout located at MQM’s stronghold Azizabad, has been renamed after first prime minister of Pakistan Liqauat Ali Khan.

“The roundabout junction, connecting Block 7, and 9, Azizabad, Federal B. Area, Karachi, known as Mucca Chowk, is named as Shaheed-e-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan Chowk, with immediate effect,” according to a notification issued by director administration, DMC Karachi Central.

Deputy Commissioner had written a letter to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, suggesting renaming of Mukka Chowk.

The move comes after posters and banners bearing pictures of MQM chief Altaf Hussain were removed by unknown persons from jurisdiction of Azizabad and Mukkah Chowk.

The MQM party distanced itself from the party head and London secretariat in the wake of anti-Pakistan speech delivered by the MQM chief earlier this week.

However, MQM chief issued a statement a day later, seeking apology over his anti-Pakistan remarks, saying he uttered such words under enormous distress.

It is also noted here that Mukka Chowk was originally associated with Liaquat Ali Khan.
