Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Monday asserted that Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed to probe Sahiwal incident will present its report tomorrow at 5pm.

Speaking to media outside Punjab Assembly, he maintained, “The time to submit the report will end on Tuesday. I have summoned a second meeting. Wait and watch what action we will take following the report.”

He emphasized that the government cannot hang anyone without conducting proper interrogation.

“I came to know about the incident in Mianwali and reached Sahiwal immediately,” he told media.

Buzdar notified that Rs20 million compensation has been announced for the family of victims whereas the government will take all the responsibility of their education and medical.

On the other hand, the victims’ relatives while declining compensation have demanded justice from the government.

It is pertinent here to mention that the CTD officials had killed four people, including a couple and their teenage daughter, and injured a teenage boy in a suspicious ‘encounter’ on GT Road near Sahiwal.

The incident had triggered a nationwide outcry that prompted the government to take the security officials into custody and order an investigation into the incident.

The suspects were identified as Shahid Jabbar and Abdul Rehman travelling towards Sahiwal and were reportedly in possession of arms and explosives, CTD stated.

The counter-terrorism officials claimed that the operation was conducted to capture an ‘Islamic State (IS) commander’ on a tip off by an intelligence agency.
