  • Punjab to press ahead with flood recovery plan despite criticism: CM Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday said that despite criticism from other provincial governments over Punjab’s post-flood response, her team remained focused on relief work instead of political point-scoring.

Speaking at a laptop distribution ceremony at the University of Chakwal, Maryam said the Punjab government’s efforts had been ‘unprecedented’ in the province’s history, as large-scale evacuations were carried out. “We not only saved human lives but also protected two million animals,” she noted.

The CM vowed not to rest until all flood-hit families were fully rehabilitated.

She urged citizens to hold their governments accountable if they lacked essential facilities such as metro buses and laptop schemes.

Maryam recalled that when she assumed office, Punjab faced a dire law and order situation.

“Murders, robberies, and rape incidents were rampant, but now crime rates have declined,” she claimed, adding that every hiring under her government was strictly on merit.

Referring to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia, Maryam said the country was no longer isolated internationally.

See how warmly the prime minister was received in the holy land,” she said, emphasizing that the national exchequer, once empty, was now in a much better position.

She further said that it was heartening to see that girls had outclassed boys in recent exams in Rawalpindi.

“However, I don’t want to underestimate the potential of male students.”

Maryam said that not only in Punjab, she also wanted to offer scholarships to students in other provinces as well.

She claimed that dozens of government schools in the province had been revamped, and now they gave a completely different look.

The chief minister said that the Punjab government had introduced the subject of artificial intelligence (AI) in schools.

Recalling her days in jail, she said that she had been imprisoned without any crime.
