The Faizabad Dharna Case Investigation Commission on Monday summoned Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The Commission summoned him as former Punjab chief minister to record his statement on January 3, 2024.

The Commission took a proactive step by preparing a comprehensive questionnaire for Shehbaz Sharif in the Faizabad protest—an event that garnered national attention and repercussions.

The inquiry commission, established to investigate the Faizabad sit-in case, is set to submit its detailed report to the Supreme Court on January 22.

This followed earlier summonses to other key figures including former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Ahsan Iqbal. Former DG ISI Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed was also summoned but he did not turn up before it, and now he has been summoned again.

During the tumultuous period of the Faizabad protest, Shehbaz Sharif held the position of Chief Minister of Punjab. The caretaker government, responding to the need for judicial clarity and accountability, established the inquiry commission in November of the previous year to determine responsibilities and implement the court’s decision on the Faizabad sit-in case.
