A three-member committee formed to fix responsibility of the terrorist attack on the Bacha Khan University (BKU) has held vice-chancellor and security in-charge of the varsity responsible for the tragedy.
On January 20, at least 21 people, including a professor, were killed when terrorists stormed the university situated in Charsadda district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
In its report submitted to the government, the committee was of the opinion that the vice-chancellor failed to put in place a proper security mechanism despite an advisory of worst security situation issued by the police.
It also held responsible security in-charge of BKU Ashfaq Ahmad, saying he “completely mismanaged the security issue. His sole duty was security but he has had no training or expertise [in this regard]”.
The committee in its recommendation asked the government to take action against the aforementioned persons and remove them from service.
On January 23, DG ISPR Lt-Gen Asim Bajwa said had five facilitators of the Charsadda attack had been arrested. The attack was being operated from Afghanistan, he added.
