The Federal Constabulary (FC) Headquarters in Peshawar was targeted in an attack on Monday morning, confirmed CCPO Peshawar Dr. Mian Saeed.Dr. Saeed stated that intermittent gunfire continues between security forces and the attackers.
The CCPO further reported that the Saddar area has been cordoned off for traffic, with vehicles being diverted to alternate routes for public safety.
However, three FC jawans were also martyed in the gunfight with militants.
A loud blast and firing were heard at the main gate of the headquarters.
Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Mian Saeed Ahmad, said: “The FC headquarters is under attack. We are responding and the area is being cordoned off.”
More teams of Rescue and the police rushed to the scene.
The CCPO Peshawar said that militants attacked the main gate of the FC headquarters at 8:10 am. “Two blasts were heard initially,” he informed.
All routes leading to Saddar area were closed for traffic. Similarly, Sunehri Masjid Road was also declared off-limits for traffic.
The blast was so severe that it shattered the glasses of nearby buildings.
He said all roads leading to the Saddar area have been sealed.
Two explosions were reported — one blast at the main FC main gate and another detonation at the nearby motorcycle stand.
Security officials say they have secured the outer perimeter of the installation, blocking all access routes leading to Saddar and adjacent areas.
Reinforcements have been deployed, and the compound remained in lockdown as troops attempted to clear the interior of the building.
The CCPO said that three FC personnel were martyred while two were injured in the incident.
Security sources told that two passers-by also received minor injuries, and were quickly evacuated to a hospital.
Soon after the attack was foiled, markets and shopping centres in the Saddar locality were opened.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) IG said that the attack was foiled as militants were not allowed to enter the building.
Further elaborating, he said that the firs blast took place at the headquarters’ main gate while the other at the motorcycle stand.
Security sources elaborated that a suicide bomber detonated himself at the main gate, while the other two tried to enter the building.
Spokesman for the Lady Reading Hospital said that two injured FC personnel and three civilians were brought to the hospital where their condition was stable and they were being properly looked after.
