Authorities have issued a fresh weather alert predicting widespread rainfall across most parts of Pakistan, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, amid concerns of potential flooding in low-lying areas. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that weak monsoon currents are currently entering the upper and central regions of the country, with intensity expected to increase from August 4. Additionally, a westerly weather system is forecast to strengthen by August 5, potentially intensifying the rainfall activity in affected regions.
According to the forecast, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are likely to receive scattered rainfall between August 4 and 7, with chances of heavy downpours at a few locations. Key areas such as Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Neelum Valley, Diamer, Skardu, and Gilgit may witness intense rainfall during this period.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a monsoon alert has also been issued, warning of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in several districts including Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, and Dera Ismail Khan from August 4 to 7.
The alert extends to major urban centres such as Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Murree, and Sialkot, where heavy rains could trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas. Authorities have advised residents and local administrations to stay vigilant and take necessary precautionary measures.
