In a significant breakthrough, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has apprehended nine terrorists, capturing the mastermind behind the DI Khan attack, identified as Kefayat.

Hailing from Daraban in the DI Khan area, Kefayat orchestrated the deadly assault in which a group of six terrorists rammed an explosive-laden truck into a security forces’ check-post in Daraban area. At least 23 security officials were martyred in the incident.

The CTD also detained seven facilitators linked to the attack, with six terrorists involved traced back to Afghanistan. Documents from the CTD reveal the involvement of five members of the banned TTP Gandapur group in the same incident.

Notably, the suicide bomber, Hasan alias Shakir, who carried out the DI Khan attack, was confirmed to be of Afghan origin. CTD sources disclosed that Shakir had also released a video prior to the attack.

Further investigations revealed that Sufatullah Marwat, killed in the suicide attack, also belonged to Afghanistan. The CTD recovered Marwat’s identity card, domicile, and other documents.

Moreover, US-made arms and ammunition were found in possession of the terrorists involved in the attack. Additionally, the father of the suicide bomber Safat confirmed his son’s connection with Afghanistan.

The arrests and findings mark a significant stride in dismantling a major terror network operating in the region.
