The polling on the vacant local government seats in 65 villages and neighbourhoods of 21 districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa held on Sunday peacefully in which independent candidates clinched 40 seats.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has released unofficial results for the Local Government (LG) by-elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, revealing that independent candidates clinched victory in 40 out of the 72 contested seats.
The by-elections, held on Sunday, saw independents dominate the electoral landscape.
The preliminary results indicate that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) secured the second position with 14 seats, while Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan-Fazl (JUI-F) secured the third spot with six seats.
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) emerged victorious on five seats, followed by Awami National Party (ANP) with four seats. Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) managed to secure two seats, and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan secured one seat.
The polling took place in 65 villages and neighborhoods across 21 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Commencing at 8am, the polling continued uninterrupted until 5pm.
The Election Commission of Pakistan set up a total of 256 polling stations in the province, including 102 for males, 89 for females, and 65 joint polling stations.
According to the Election Commission, the eligible voter count included approximately 208,964 males and 176,871 females, making a total of 385,835 voters across the districts where elections were held.
