Pakistan has formally assumed the Chairmanship of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) for next year.
In a post on social media platform X, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan will conduct its Chairmanship under the theme: "Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity".
The Prime Minister also congratulated the Kyrgyz Republic on successfully hosting the Summit and steering the Organization with distinction.
Shehbaz Sharif said he was honoured to address the SCO Council of Heads of State Meeting in Bishkek today.
He said guided by the Shanghai Spirit, the SCO has emerged over the past 25 years as a vital forum for regional cooperation.
Recalling Pakistan's immense sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that terrorism must be condemned in all its forms and manifestations.
He also reminded the SCO family that water is the lifeblood of the region and it must never be weaponised. He further said the binding treaties governing shared waters must be honoured in letter and spirit.
The Prime Minister expressed the confidence that the SCO will continue to grow from strength to strength and bring meaningful improvements to the lives of its more than three billion people.
