    Former Prime Minister and PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Friday challenged the returning officer’s decision rejecting his nomination papers for NA-53 Islamabad.

    Abbasi filed an election petition through his lawyer, requesting an appellate tribunal to set aside the decision.

    Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) will likely take up his appeal today.

    The RO had earlier rejected the nomination papers of PTI chief Imran Khan, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Ayesha Gulalai for NA-53 constituency.NA 53: Nominations of Former PM Abbasi, Gullali RejectedAccording to the ECP, the nomination forms were turned down over violation of Section N of the affidavit, relating to development work a candidate undertook in their constituency.

    The objection raised by the returning officer stated that the respective candidates failed to fill up affidavit according to the conditions mentioned.Meanwhile, today is the last day for filing of appeals against rejection or acceptance of nomination papers by returning officers for the National and provincial assemblies’ seats.
