Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Wednesday has ordered Bestway Cement Factory to fill the Katas Raj pond within one week.
The aforementioned order was placed during hearing of suo-moto case on weariness of the pond located at the site in Chakwal.
CJP expressed exasperation over asbenece of owner of Bestway Cement Factory and inquired who gave the rights to the conglomerate to suck out the underground water.
“We will not transcend our jurisdiction but will certainly fill the administrative space”, remarked CJP.
“We would shut down all factories if fetid atmosphere deteriorates further”, CJP remarked while directing, “Close the turbine with immediate effect”.
It is believed that historic pond have depleted as adjacent factories have sucked out the underground water.
During hearing, disgruntled CJP remarket, “Whenever I travel via motorway, I am dismayed as elite class has ruined the natural scenic beauty. Don’t make life of masses full of miseries under guise of producing cement”.
Replying to CJP s remark, Bestway Cement official stated that his company has not dug up hills along motorway.
SC adjourned hearing for an indefinite period after summoning report from factories located in Zone-B area and their ensuing effects on the environment.
