An emergency meeting of the newly-reconstituted Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has been called on November 29 to discuss the protest sit-in at Islamabad's Faizabad Interchange, the CII announced on Friday.

In the meeting, religious clerics and legal experts will be called to participate in a discussion on the matter of the amendment made to the Khatm-i-Nabuwwat oath in the Elections Act 2017, among other issues, a CII spokesperson said.

CII President Dr Qibla Ayaz will be presiding over the meeting, he said; adding that the meeting will "thoroughly" review the issue of the amendment of the oath.

Dr Ayaz has said that the parliament has already resolved the issue in an appropriate manner.

Asserting that the issue of Khatm-i-Nabuwwat is a matter of faith for each and every Muslim, he said that all the political and religious parties seem to have acted according to the aspirations of the nation and the lapse in the law has already been removed.

He said that a recent amendment to the law has also closed the door of any ambiguity in connection with the law on Khatm-i-Nabuwwat.

The CCI is a statutory body with a minimum of eight and a maximum of 20 members, including one woman, whose function is to advise parliament on whether laws are in consonance with Islamic injunctions.
