    Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Sunday called upon United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for a plebiscite in Kashmir, stressing on the need for implementation of the United Nation’s Security Council Resolution in this regard.

    The premier also raised the issue of tensions between Pakistan and India, including ceasefire violations on the Line of Control and the Working Boundary.

    Nawaz Sharif urged the UNSG to play a role in putting to halt ceasefire violations along the LoC.

    Ban Ki-moon expressed concern on tensions between Pakistan and India and offered his good offices for dialogue between the two arch rivals.

    Nawaz Sharif also emphasised that Pakistan’s fight against terrorism is a top priority and that Pakistan sought to build a new relationship with Afghanistan.

    “Pakistan is ready to assist the Afghan reconciliation process when asked,” said the PM.

    The UN secretary general commended the premier for choosing a female ambassador to the UN, and also paid tributes to Pakistan’s peacekeepers.

    The premier is currently in New York to attend the 70th United Nations General Assembly session, where his address is scheduled for Sept 30.
