A rain and heat wave alert has been issued for various cities across Punjab, including Lahore, as weather conditions remain unpredictable.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has issued warnings of potential rain accompanied by thunderstorms in different areas of Punjab today.

Despite the forecast for rain, Lahore and other parts of Punjab are bracing for a heat wave expected to last from May 21 to 27. During this period, temperatures are projected to remain above normal for up to six hours each day, significantly impacting daily life.

As the heat intensifies, the demand for electricity in Lahore has surged, leading to widespread power outages. The city's electricity demand has exceeded 3,500 megawatts, while the National Power Control Center (NPCC) is supplying 3,200MW to the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), resulting in a shortfall of 300MW.

This power deficit has led to an increase in the duration of load shedding across Lahore. Residents are experiencing power outages ranging from two to six hours, disrupting daily routines and causing significant inconvenience.

The PDMA has urged citizens to take necessary precautions during the heat wave, including staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and ensuring proper ventilation in homes. Meanwhile, the authorities are working to manage the electricity supply and reduce the impact of load shedding on the city's residents.
