Pakistan and India exchanged lists of their respective nuclear installations on Monday, as well as lists of the other country’s prisoners in their jails through diplomatic channels.
According to sources, the lists of nuclear facilities between Pakistan and India were exchanged in Islamabad and Delhi. Pakistan’s lists were handed over to a senior official of the Indian High Commission in the Foreign Office in Islamabad, while India gave its list to the officials of the Pakistan High Commission at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in New Delhi.
Moreover, a list of 231 Indian prisoners in Pakistan (47 civilian prisoners and 184 fishermen) was also handed over to the Indian High Commission, while India handed over its similar list of Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails to the Pakistani High Commission officials. According to the list, there are 418 Pakistanis in Indian jails (337 civilian prisoners and 81 fishermen).
The Indian government has been urged to release and repatriate all those Pakistani civilian prisoners and fishermen, who have completed their respective sentence and whose national status stood confirmed.
A request for grant of consular access to the missing defence personnel of 1965 and 1971 wars, and special consular access to 77 civil prisoners has also been made.
In an ongoing tradition, both countries exchange these lists on January 1 and July 1 every year in pursuance of the Consular Access Agreement of 2008.
