The death toll in a traffic accident that eventually turned into a blaze here in the area on Monday rose to 27 late night as one of the wounded persons succumbed to their injuries in Karachi, hospital sources confirmed.

Five people were transported to Karachi and admitted in the Civil Hospital. Two of them, however, died late last night and their bodies transported to Edhi's morgue at Sohrab Goth.

The bodies will be handed over to the bereaved relatives once a DNA test is complete.

Initial reports, according to Deputy Commissioner Lasbela Shabbir Mengal, had suggested that at least 20 people died in the accident when a passenger bus and an oil tanker collided in Hub and the latter then erupted into a ball of fire, burning some of the passengers in the former.

According to Mengal, 16 people were wounded but taken out of the vehicle and four of them, in a critical condition, were shifted to a nearby hospital.

The bus was set to leave from Karachi to Panjgor, the DC Lasbela said, adding that the blaze was brought under control.

Earlier, police had said the passenger coach caught fire due to the collision and more than 35 people were inside the vehicle at that time. Rescue officials had mentioned that they started relief activities after the crash.

Multiple major road accidents were reported this year, resulting in several casualties. In early August, last year, at least 18 people died in a collision between a passenger bus and a tanker.

In July 2018, 11 passengers were killed and several others sustained injuries in a three-vehicle crash near Nawabshah.
