The leader of Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) won Senate seat by defeating opposition candidate Rehmatullah on Wednesday.

The ruling party candidate Sarfraz Bugti secured 37 votes and his rival joint opposition candidate Rehmatullah got 20 votes.

The provincial Senate seat was vacated in the general elections held on July 25 after former senator Naimatullah Zehri decided to retain his Balochistan Assembly seat and resigned as the senator.

On Saturday, PTI’s Rind submitted his nomination papers for the Senate election, claiming he would “easily win”.

It is pertinent to mention that the term of the vacated Senate seat will last for two years.
