Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus and controversy-ridden “Padmaavat” has hit cinemas worldwide with 18 crore business on its very first day.

The news has been confirmed by Indian Box Office. The business is not as good as it should have been and an additional 120 crore is needed to cover the cost of the film.

The paid preview collection amounted to 5 crores. It is worth noting that the film has lost 30 to 35 percent of its market due to partial or complete shutdown of some circuits due to protests and violence in the country against the movie.
The movie has been targeted by fringe groups for allegedly distorting historical facts but amid all the controversy, the film was released worldwide on January 25.

The movie performed well in Mumbai and Chandigarh. The national holiday is also likely to benefit the movie’s collections.

In Australia, New Zealand and the UK, the film faired really well.
