Responding to the imminent heavy rainfall, the Sindh government has implemented precautionary steps to ensure public safety.

On Thursday, the Sindh School Education and Literacy Department issued a notification, officially cancelling evening classes in both private and public schools for tomorrow, February 29, 2024 (Friday).

In anticipation of adverse weather conditions in the metropolis, the Sindh government has declared a rain emergency across the province.

As part of this decision, offices in Karachi will operate for only half a day on Friday. Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab Siddiqui, in a post on social media platform X, emphasised that this measure is taken as an “abundant precaution.”

He further urged citizens to refrain from unnecessary travel to prevent any inconvenience.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department had previously forecasted rain, windstorms, and the possibility of isolated hailstorms in Sindh between February 29 and March 2.

Taking these predictions into account, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah declared a province-wide rain emergency during a meeting.

The chief minister’s spokesperson conveyed that local bodies, administrations, and hospitals have been placed on high alert in response to the forecasted weather conditions.

In alignment with these precautions, Karachi University has announced the suspension of evening classes in view of possible rain in Karachi tomorrow.

Furthermore, exams that were scheduled to be held after 2 pm on Friday are also postponed, as communicated by the University of Karachi administration.
