Germany is offering fully-funded scholarships to international students pursuing undergraduate and post-graduate studies at a university or a university of applied sciences (Fachhochschule) in Berlin or Potsdam.

These scholarships are part of the SBW Berlin Scholarship 2024 initiative, which was created to support talented individuals worldwide.

The scholarship includes a monthly payment, housing allowance, and a full waiver of tuition fees, and it also covers travel costs.

“Our scholarship recipients work on social projects during their studies in Berlin. Ideally, these projects are part of the charitable work of organizations based in their home countries and/or contribute to improving living conditions there,” a statement published on the SBW Berlin scholarship website reads.

It further says that students receiving scholarships are expected to return to their home countries after graduation and help advance projects with the skills they gained while studying in Germany.

Prospective students should be between 18 and 30 and have prior experience working with a non-profit organization or social institution in their home countries.

Additionally, applicants are required to submit letters of recommendation from relevant organizations to support their application.

Another criteria for eligible applicants is for the latter to not have resided in Germany for more than 18 months before applying.

They should hold a university entrance qualification, express an intention to work for at least 18 months in their home country after completing studies or engage in humanitarian activities in Germany until the repayment plan is fulfilled.

Moreover, to qualify for the scholarship, applicants should receive a relatively low net income, achieve an average grade that is equivalent to the German grade point average of at least 2.0, and not have immediate family members residing in Germany permanently.

Applicants have until May 15 to June 30 and November 15 to December 31 annually to submit their applications.

Germany is the third most popular study destination for international students, receiving about 370,000 from many countries during the winter semester of 2022/2023.
