    ISLAMABAD: The government will provide sovereign guarantees to foreign investors in Pakistan to safeguard their assets in the country.Pakistan has already been made an investment-friendly country through the investment policy, liberalising rules and other facilities for investors.

    Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said this on Monday while talking to a Chinese delegation led by President of the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) Jia Zhiqiang at the PM House.

    It was the second Chinese corporate sector delegation that had a meeting with the prime minister in a week and showed keen interest in making huge investment in Pakistan. The prime minister said on the occasion that Pakistan would provide necessary safeguards to foreign investments and urged the international companies to invest in Pakistan for the best returns.

    Federal Minister for Water and Power and Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Privatisation Commission Chairman Muhammad Zubair, Board of Investment Chairman and Special Assistant to PM Miftah Ismail, PM’s Principal Secretary Javaid Alam, Political Secretary Dr Asif Kirmani and senior officials were also present on the occasion. Welcoming the delegation, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that Chinese investments would provide boost to the economy of Pakistan as China was willing to invest $35 billion in various infrastructural projects within 3 to 5 years. He said that the Chinese investment had improved the business ambiance in Pakistan and the people considered it as a great friendly gesture.

    The prime minister said that investments in Pakistan would yield high dividends to foreign investors as the business-friendly environment of Pakistan offered great opportunities. The president SGCC told the prime minister that his company was managing around 70 percent of power transmission lines in China. He further elaborated that there were only 6 percent line losses in the transmission system of China owing to better control mechanism, utilising innovative technology and best management practices.
