British Prime Minister Theresa May has lauded Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision of releasing Indian air force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman after his plane was shot down amid soaring tensions with India.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had a telephonic conversation with May late Sunday, in which he apprised the British PM of Pakistan’s perspective on the developments since the Pulwama incident, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf said in an Instagram post.

PM May welcomed PM Imran’s decision of releasing the Indian pilot, which has been widely appreciated by the international community.

She mentioned the need for both India and Pakistan to de-escalate, adding that the UK was in touch with both sides in this regard.

PM Imran invited PM May for a visit to Pakistan. The UK premier reciprocated the invitation.

Prime Minister Imran Khan's efforts to de-escalate tensions with neighbouring India have been applauded by world leaders.

His gesture of peace by releasing the Indian pilot to defuse the situation and potentially avoid an all-out war has also kickstarted a movement advocating a Nobel Peace Prize for the Pakistani leader.
