Special Assistant for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Zulfi Bukhari met ride-hailing platform Careem's top leadership and captains in Dubai on Tuesday to discuss various initiatives the government has in the pipeline to help overseas Pakistanis employed by the company.
Careem Chief Executive Officer Mudassir Sheikha, in a statement shared by Techjuice, said that Bukhari's visit to the company's HQ was a "valuable opportunity to discuss ways in which we can improve the lives of Pakistani captains in the United Arab Emirates and across the Gulf region."
"The majority of our initial captains here in the UAE were from Pakistan," Sheikha added.
Careem Managing Director Junaid Iqbal claimed that some of the company's captains from the UAE are "now advising their friends and family back home to work with Careem", adding: "We are committed to empowering them and their families."
Bukhari said that the government "will take every measure to ease out their living outside of Pakistan, from the perspective of financial inclusion and investment back home."
A press release issued by Careem stated that Junaid Iqbal is working with the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis to develop special promo codes for Pakistanis' travel home.
Earlier, in January, Bukhari had met the Dubai police chief to enable the setting up of a mechanism to share prisoner data for swift repatriation. The prisoner data swap is expected to help Islamabad make arrangements for repatriation of prisoners well before they are released.
