Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has underscored the need for 'proper and precise' planning to deal with issues of cyberspace.

Ayatollah Khamenei made the call during a Tuesday meeting with members of Iran’s Supreme Council of Cyberspace (ISCC).

The Leader described the ISCC as the main center for attentive, responsible and authoritative policymaking on cyberspace issues, noting that it should produce further influential Islamic content and adopt a more active role in the sector.

To that end, the Leader said, the council needs to have “concentration on decision-making,” “seriousness in [their] implementation without losing time,” coordination with other organizations and refrain from contradictions.

Prior to the Leader's remarks, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani delivered a report on the significance, plans and measures of the ISCC.

On March 7, 2012, Ayatollah Khamenei assigned the previous administration under president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad with the task of establishing the Supreme Council of Cyberspace in an effort to safeguard national and cultural values as well as ensuring the safety of the Internet in Iran.

The Supreme Council of Cyberspace, headed by Iran’s president, is comprised of high-ranking officials.
