Sindh Prisons Inspector General (IG) on Sunday has formed an investigation team headed by DIG South Javed Akhtar to probe into liquor bottles recovery from former Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Memon’s room in Ziauddin hospital.

Earlier, on Saturday Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had paid surprise visit to the PPP leader’s luxury room in Zia-ud-Din hospital hospitals where Sharjeel Memon was undergoing treatment and found the liquor bottles from his room.

When inquired, Sharjeel Memon said that he had nothing to do with the liquor bottles.

However, CJP had ordered to shift the PPP leader back to jail and to launch an investigation into the matter.

CJP Saqib Nisar also directed to present CCTv footage of the last one month.

“Nobody will be spared and those responsible will be dealt with according to the law,” he had said.

After the orders, police arrested Memon, his driver and one of his servants. The driver had told reporters that as far as he knew, the bottles found in Memon’s room contained “oil” and “honey”.

Justice Nisar had also photographed the alcohol bottles and warned of consequences to those who broke the law.
