Strict measures have been taken to ensure security to Muharram processions in Karachi and other cities of Sindh on 9th and 10th of Muharram. The law enforcing agencies have been put on high alert to deal with any eventuality.

Aerial surveillance of Muharram processions will be conducted to keep an eye on anti-state elements and terrorists. Imposing a five-day ban on motorbike pillion-riding across Sindh, the government has deployed thousands of police and Rangers personnel in the metropolis.

Link-roads connecting to M.A Jinnah Road have been sealed with containers, with snipers deployed on roof tops along procession routes.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras have also been installed to closely monitor activities on the procession routes under a Command and Control Center. The mobile phone service is likely to remain suspended in Karachi and other cities of the country due to security concerns.

Mourning processions will be held on 9th and 10th of Muharram to commemorate the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) and his family members in Karbala.
