In a significant development, the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench has issued an order for the de-sealing of Lal Haveli, the residence of former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed.

Sheikh Rashid had filed an appeal in LHC Rawalpindi Bench against the decision to seal Lal Haveli.

The court has overturned the previous decision made by the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) and directed them to deseal the property and reopen the case.

The ETPB had previously declared the occupation of Rawalpindi’s Lal Haveli and six other properties by former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid and his brother as ‘illegal’.

Additionally, the ETPB stated in its verdict that the case had been pending for the past 27 years, attributing the delay to ‘political influence exerted by the former interior minister’.

The court has now ruled that Sheikh Rashid and Sheikh Sadiq should have the opportunity to present their case again, with a fresh hearing.

Speaking to the media, Sh Rashid stated: “The solitude has made me a new Sheikh Rashid. I have lost 30 kgs, no abuse has been committed”.

Regarding upcoming elections, he declared his intention to contest from both seats against the PDM (Pakistan Democratic Movement).

“Even if I go to jail, I will contest elections from both the constituencies”, Rashid emphasised.

Sheikh Rashid added that he is standing with armed forces of Pakistan, adding that ‘We are ethnic and original, and leave everything to Allah’.
